5 Question Friday and Fill In Friday!

1. Do you think cursive writing is overrated? (Schools in Indiana have now voted to take teaching cursive writing out of their curriculum.)
With all of the preparation for standardized tests that schools are doing, some are not teaching cursive anymore.  Think about it, how often do you write in cursive?  I think typing is a more important skill to be taught.
2. Do you still use a pocket calendar or notepad or do you keep your info on your smart phone?
I use the calendar on my phone.  I love it!
3. What 3 things would you save if your house was burning down? (family & pets are already safe)
My scrapbooks, my daughter's bear blanket (she would be a mess without it!) and I guess my phone.  As long as the pets and my daughter were out, though, I really wouldn't need anything.
4. Country Mouse or City Mouse, err Person?
More of a country mouse person!  Or a small town on the water kind of gal.

5. If you could pick ANY reality show to go on, which would you pick?
I would love to go on Survivor.  My dad and I used to talk about signing up as a father, daughter team for that or the Amazing Race.  If not that, I would love to be on one of those design shows where they come re-decorate your house!

1- When I was younger, I used to _be pretty shy!
2- I always start my day with a yummy cup of coffee!
3 – When I get some time alone I like to __lay in bed and read, scrapbook, blog, or watch reality TV_____
4  – I think __basing teacher pay on kid's test scores_____ is ridiculous!

5 question Friday

1. Have you ever had roommates?  I have always lived by myself since I moved out of my parent's house.  That is, until the day I brought my baby girl home from the hospital.  It has been just me and her ever since

2. How many names do you/your children have? At one point in my life I am embarrassed to say, my friends called me Hurley and I HATED it.  Sure, I was a little wild and might have even earned the name, but come on, who wants that for a nickname?

3. Did you watch the Royal Wedding? It was so early that my mom was afraid to call and wake me up, but she called in time for my daughter and I to see their kiss and I was glad she did!  I am a hopeless romantic and believe in love!

4. What is the messiest room in your house?  Since you know my dirty little secret, you know that I don't really have one, ha, ha, ha!

5. What is your ideal mothers day?  Lay in bed and read all day!  Have a delicious dinner of crab legs dipped in lemon and butter.  And of course some hand made cards from my little artist!

This week, I am also participating in Boost My Blog Friday hosted by Design It Chic.  Click on the link below to meet some more new friends!
Her question of the week is, if mother's day were a color, what color would it be?  I would say that Mother's Day is yellow, like the beautiful yellow roses that my grandmother loves!  Have a happy Friday!

5 question Friday

1. What is your favorite Easter tradition?
Sunrise service in the park along the water with family and friends, followed by brunch at my parents house with all of our wonderful neighbors and an Easter egg hunt.  The egg hunt is sometimes straightforward and sometimes creative.  My favorite was the year we had to fish in the neighbor's pool to get the eggs out.

2. Are you a "shower" or a "long, hot bath" kind of person?
I would love to have time in my life for a long, hot bath, but unfortunately it is the shower for me with a prayer for enough time to shave my legs!

3. Can you parallel park and if so when is the last time you did it?
I am an awesome parallel parker!  There is absolutely no place to park at my kid's school, but many times since I can parallel park, I can get a spot!

4. What is your favorite Easter candy?
Cadberry eggs!  Followed closely by Jelly Belly jelly beans.

5. Easter: do you go all out with the Easter Bunny or focus on the religious part of the holiday?
We do both the bunny and Jesus!

Friday! Friday!

What a rainy week!  I guess I shouldn't complain because I understand that up north it is snowing!  The good news is it is supposed to clear up today and be a beautiful weekend!  We have absolutely no plans this weekend and are looking forward to just relaxing!

1. If I don’t _brush my teeth____ in the morning, my day feels off.  I will wonder all day about it.  Did I brush my teeth or did I forget to?  Can anyone tell?  Is my breath bad?  If I chew some gum would that fix it?  Then I count down the hours until I get home to my toothbrush.

2. When someone walks into my house for the first time, they usually comment on _the size of the house____
You have to enter the house through the garage and what looks like a back alley.  Once you come in, you see a garden in the front and in the back there is a covered porch, screened porch and a small backyard.

3. Every time I see the movie, _pretty much any movie_____, I cry.  There is just something about the music at the end of a movie that gets to me.  My daughter always looks at me after a movie to check and see if I have any tears.  More than half the time, I do!  How embarassing.

4. My feet feel best when ___in the sand___ There is nothing like putting your feet into the cool sand- it is the best feeling in the world!

1. Have you ever had surgery?  I had a c-section when I had my daughter.  I don't remember a darn thing!

2. Ever ride in an ambulance? One time I thought I was having a stroke.  My arm was numb and one leg was wobbly.  I could not really thing straight either.  I called them and asked if I could take my daughter too (since who else was going to take her?!) and they said sure.  But by the time they had come to pick me up (glad I wasn't dying!) my dad had come over to get my kid.  And by the time I got to the hospital, I was seeing spots and they figured it was a migraine.

3. How are you in a medical emergency? Panicked? Calm?  You never know until you are in that position, I think I would handle it better than I think I will.  (Does that make sense?!)

4. Do you have a garden? Flowers or veggies?  I love to garden!  Flowers, veggies, whatever!  I have a nice garden in front of my house and am going to put one in the backyard over spring break.  We just broke ground on our school garden today- had 20 teenagers digging up grass before we put down our soil!

5. When did you move out of your parents house? I was 23 and had just gotten my permanent teaching assignment.  My closet in my bedroom at my parent's house had collapsed under the weight of all the clothes and stuff, and my dad said, "Well, I think it is time for you to find your own place to put all of your junk!"

Enjoy the beautiful weekend and find a new blog to follow today!

5 question Friday

Hi! And happy Friday! And it is a happy Friday for me because there is no school today FOR NO REASON! What makes it even better is that there is no school Monday FOR NO REASON either!!! A 4 day weekend just for the heck of it! Whatever will my daughter and I do with ourselves? I bet you can guess...

Here is my 5 question Friday for this week:
1. Have you ever testified in court? For what?
no
2. Do you still have your wedding dress?
not married- I have never even tried one on.
3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?
I love to go to the beach or lay by a pool. The smell of salt water or chlorine and suntan lotion just melts all my troubles away.
4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?
As a single mom, the only time I have to myself is after I put my daughter to bed, so I have never allowed her to sleep with me. Plus, I am a light sleeper and she kicks!
5. Do you watch late night TV? No, I am usually in bed by 10.
