Every year for the past 10 years or so, my family has been going to the local Octoberfest. Over the years it has grown to be a pretty large event. They have the traditional German folk dancers, play the chicken dance, and have contests such as log sawing and keg throwing. They also have a stein-holding contest. Each year, my dad used to enter it, and he usually won. He was not a big guy, but boy, was he strong!
My dad from last year- 2nd place! |
My brother from this year- 1st place |
Me- this year, third place- not too shabby! |

It's sad, the empty spaces our loved ones leave behind. Still, we find they're still with us when we're there. It sounds like you had a bit of that. Good for you.
So glad you and your brother and friends did that in the memory of your dad.
What a fun tradition - and how nice that you can continue to create warm family memories.
Keg throwing? Wow!
It sounds like your family had warm memories of your dad while carrying on a family tradition.
I love the blog. Congrats on your stein holding, that is super awesome. I am a new follower and fellow teacher in the process of slowing losing her mind :) I am visiting from super stalker!
How fun, a stein holding contest! We love to go to our Oktoberfest also, such a fun event. Happy Autumn, stopping by from The Sunday Social Hop. :)
Congratulations! So cool that you and your brother are carrying on the tradition in honor of your dad.
Congrats on the 3rd place!!
I'm sorry you had to go without your father this year.
